Locations for Your Family Photoshoot in Stockholm
The location is so much more than just a backdrop for your photoshoot. It becomes part of your story, part of the memory, and part of the feeling you will remember years from now.
As a family photographer in Stockholm, I carefully scout every location I offer. These are not simply “beautiful places” — they are locations that truly work for photography in different seasons, weather conditions, and times of day. I know where the light falls softly on a summer evening, where the golden glow appears in autumn, and where we can find calm, beautiful corners even in the middle of the city.
Whether you are a local Stockholm family, an expat family wanting to document your life in Sweden, or visitors exploring Stockholm with your children, choosing the right location helps create photographs that feel natural, timeless, and deeply personal.
During your session, we will not stay in one spot posing endlessly. Instead, I will guide you through a relaxed little walk through the location, stopping at several carefully chosen spots along the way. This creates beautiful variety in your gallery, but more importantly, it allows everyone — especially children — to settle in naturally, move freely, and simply enjoy the experience.
My sessions are built around connection and movement rather than stiff posing. I will encourage you to walk together, play, cuddle, explore, laugh, and interact naturally as a family. Sometimes I even bring small props or playful ideas to help children engage and have fun.
This is where the real magic happens: the genuine smiles, the wind in the hair, the little hands reaching for yours, the spontaneous laughter, and the quiet moments of connection that cannot be staged.
The result is a relaxed family photoshoot experience in Stockholm — and photographs that feel alive, emotional, and truly like you.
Skeppsholmen – A Peaceful Stockholm Photoshoot Location with Iconic City Views
Season: all year around
Time: mornings and evenings
Skeppsholmen is without question one of my favourite locations for family photography in Stockholm — especially if you dream of beautiful city views without the stress and crowds of the busy tourist areas.
Located just minutes from Stockholm city centre, this little island offers everything that feels iconic and memorable about Stockholm in one place: sparkling water views, beautiful old architecture, lush greenery, charming pathways, and breathtaking views over Gamla Stan and the Stockholm skyline.
But what makes Skeppsholmen truly special for photoshoots is something even more important: space and calm.
Unlike Gamla Stan, where photoshoots often mean navigating around tourists and busy streets, Skeppsholmen gives us room to slow down, move naturally, and fully enjoy the experience. Children can run freely, families can walk and play together, and larger groups can relax without constantly feeling observed or interrupted.
This freedom creates a completely different atmosphere during the session — relaxed, playful, and genuine. And that always shows in the photographs.
Skeppsholmen is also one of the most versatile outdoor photoshoot locations in Stockholm throughout the entire year. In summer, the island is filled with soft green tones and warm evening light reflecting over the water. In autumn, the trees create beautiful golden colours. Even in winter, when many locations can feel empty or grey, Skeppsholmen still photographs beautifully thanks to its colourful historic buildings in warm red, yellow, and earthy tones that bring life and character into your images.
Because of its open spaces and easy walking paths, I especially recommend Skeppsholmen for:
families with small children,
larger family groups,
maternity sessions,
visitors wanting classic Stockholm scenery,
and expat families looking for timeless Stockholm memories.
If you want photographs that feel unmistakably like Stockholm — while still feeling relaxed, natural, and intimate — Skeppsholmen is one of the best locations in the city.
Gamla Stan – Timeless Family Photography in Stockholm’s Old Town
Season: all year around
Time: early mornings
Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s beautiful Old Town, is one of the most iconic locations for a photoshoot in the city. With its cobblestone streets, colourful historic buildings, hidden alleys, and charming little corners, it offers the classic Stockholm atmosphere so many families and visitors dream of capturing.
I photograph here throughout the entire year, as the scenery stays beautiful in every season. Unlike nature locations, Gamla Stan always has warmth, texture, and character — making it a wonderful and relatively weather-independent choice for outdoor photography in Stockholm (as long as it is not raining heavily!).
Because Gamla Stan is one of Stockholm’s most popular areas, photoshoots here require a little patience and flexibility. To capture those calm, timeless images without crowds, we usually start early in the morning before the city fills with tourists. Even then, we may occasionally pause to let passersby cross the streets or wait for the perfect quiet moment in a beautiful alleyway.
Because of the busier environment and slower pace of shooting, I especially recommend Gamla Stan for:
families with older children,
couples and maternity sessions,
families with babies,
visitors wanting the classic Stockholm experience,
and anyone dreaming of authentic Old Town photography in Stockholm.
The result is a gallery of truly iconic Stockholm photographs — timeless images filled with beautiful architecture, atmosphere, and the unmistakable feeling of the city. Perfect memories from your time in Stockholm, and beautiful artwork to display at home for years to come.
Mariaberget – Sunset Couples & Maternity Photography in Södermalm
Season: all year around
Time: evenings
Mariaberget is one of the most magical locations in Stockholm for couples and maternity photography — especially if you love the atmosphere of Södermalm and want those iconic city views at sunset.
Perched on the cliffs above the city, this location offers breathtaking views over Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s rooftops, and the sparkling water below. On warm evenings, the golden sunset light here is simply incredible and creates the perfect backdrop for romantic, cinematic photographs filled with Stockholm charm.
What makes Mariaberget so special is the combination of dramatic city views and the relaxed Södermalm atmosphere. The little streets, scenic viewpoints, old buildings, and open cliffs all create beautiful variety within a short walking distance.
This is very much a living Stockholm location — especially during summer evenings, when locals gather for picnics on the scenic meadows overlooking the city. That means there will often be people around, and you need to feel comfortable having a little audience during your session. But for many couples, this vibrant atmosphere is part of the magic and energy of Stockholm itself.
The result is a gallery full of iconic Stockholm sunset photographs that feel romantic, emotional, and effortlessly Scandinavian.
Because of the lively atmosphere and cliffside setting, I especially recommend Mariaberget for:
couples sessions,
maternity photography,
engagement or anniversary shoots,
visitors wanting iconic Stockholm skyline views,
and anyone who loves Södermalm’s creative and relaxed atmosphere.
Nacka Nature Reserve – Beautiful Swedish Nature Just Outside Stockholm
Season: Location 1 (May - August), Location 2 (October - November)
Time: early mornings & evenings
If you dream of capturing the feeling of Swedish nature in your family photographs, this location in Nacka Nature Reserve is truly something special.
Located just outside Stockholm city centre, this stunning lakeside spot surrounded by forest offers some of the most scenic natural backdrops I photograph in. Calm water, soft evening light, wooden details, wild greenery, and peaceful forest surroundings create a timeless, dreamy atmosphere that feels unmistakably Scandinavian.
I photograph here from late spring until late autumn, when nature is at its most beautiful. The light by the lake during summer evenings is especially magical.
This location offers two beautiful photo spots to choose from: one by the wooden bridge and boats along the water where I usually photograph pre-summer (May - August), and another one with the little swing surrounded by nature, where I usually photograph autumn colour photoshoots (October - November). Together, they create a wonderful variety of images while keeping the experience relaxed and connected to nature.
Because of the peaceful natural surroundings and areas close to the water, I especially recommend this location for:
families with older children,
couples and maternity sessions,
smaller family groups,
visitors wanting to experience authentic Swedish nature,
and families looking for a relaxed outdoor photoshoot near Stockholm with lakes and forest scenery.
If you are looking for authentic Swedish nature photography near Stockholm — with lakes, forest, and beautiful Scandinavian summer atmosphere — this is one of the most magical locations I can recommend.
Nyckelviken – Whimsical Flower Field Photography Near Stockholm
Season: August - October
Time: Evenings
Nyckelviken Nature Reserve is one of the most magical late-summer and autumn photoshoot locations near Stockholm. If you dream of soft sunset light, overflowing flowers, and romantic Scandinavian nature, this place is truly something special.
During August and September, Nyckelviken’s beautiful dahlia garden comes into full bloom, transforming the park into a sea of colour and texture. We meet in the evening, just before sunset, when the gardens become quieter and the golden light turns everything soft and dreamy.
The flower beds create an incredible backdrop for natural family moments — running through the paths, playing with the children, cuddling close, and simply enjoying a peaceful summer evening together. The result is a gallery filled with whimsical, emotional, and beautifully colourful photographs that feel almost fairytale-like.
Later in autumn, Nyckelviken also becomes one of my favourite locations for capturing Stockholm’s autumn colours, with warm golden leaves and beautiful soft light throughout the reserve.
Because the park is spacious and easy to move through, it works wonderfully for both smaller and larger groups, while still allowing for relaxed and natural photography.
Because of the open spaces and versatile scenery, I especially recommend Nyckelviken for:
Industrial Stockholm – Urban & Editorial Photography with a Scandinavian Edge
Season: all year
Time: Evenings
Not every photoshoot needs to be soft, sweet, or idyllic.
Sometimes, the most striking photographs come from contrast — raw textures against soft moments, dramatic architecture paired with human connection, and the bold atmosphere of the city itself. This industrial Stockholm location is perfect for creating something modern, urban, and completely different from the classic nature or Old Town backdrop.
With concrete structures, metal details, open spaces, clean Scandinavian lines, and a slightly cinematic feeling, this setting creates photographs that feel powerful, stylish, and effortlessly cool. It is a location that works especially beautifully for more editorial-inspired sessions, where mood, movement, and personality take centre stage.
I especially love this location for pregnancy photography, where the contrast between strong industrial surroundings and the softness of maternity creates truly stunning and artistic images. The spacious environment also works wonderfully for larger groups and personal portrait sessions with a more modern aesthetic.
The result is a gallery that feels bold, contemporary, and unique — iconic Stockholm photography with an urban edge.
Because of the modern industrial atmosphere and spacious setting, I especially recommend this location for:
maternity and pregnancy photography,
personal branding or portrait sessions,
larger groups,
couples wanting a modern editorial look,
and anyone looking for stylish urban photography in Stockholm with a cool Scandinavian feel.
This was a lot of information to digest! So I want to close this of saying that I’m so looking forward to meet you, and to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you!
