Hello there, and congratulations - you have booked a newborn home studio photoshoot with Nordic Tales Photography… and you are probably wondering what to expect?

If you have followed me on social media for a while, you probably know, that I have a big hate for studio photography. White walls, perfect posing, extensively curated pictures - this is not for me.

Most of my newborn photoshoots are done in the homes of my clients. But over the years, I discovered that many families also struggle with the chaos that a new family member brings, especially during the first days!

So I decided to offer my own home, in a little ‘studio twist’ set-up for these shoots… so you can come, relax, have a coffee and don’t need to worry about how presentable your place looks or really, anything else! Here, you get to be my guest, and focus on what’s important: The cuddles, the love, all the special feels of the first days and weeks.

What can you expect from a (home) studio?

The idea is simple - while there is a small studio set-up with white background, lights and all you can expect from a photo studio, we will utilise the space like we would in your own home. Some pictures, we will take front of the white studio wall - this is a great set-up to get clean, timeless portraits of your little one!

Because I love natural light, I will also ask you to pose next to the window, and if you like, we can also get some homey shoots in the bedroom, where you all sit on a big bed. Just like at home - without the need of tidying up first! ;)

I usually start with baby - some individual portraits on a big pillow in front of the white studio wall. We will wrap baby in all types of fabrics and do little poses if the situation allows. From experience I know that parents are often very nervous about this part - will my baby be peaceful or fussy?

And while babies certainly have their own character and mood or the day and we cannot influence or force everything, let me tell you that - usually - these little babies are just fine! If you can, give them a feed just before you arrive, or anything that will make them sleepy! Also, put baby directly into the outfit you want to take pictures in, so we can just place them as they arrive and take already a few shots without annoying baby with many outfit changes!

If you use a sound machine that baby is used to, bring it along! You can also feed during the photoshoot if this relaxes you and your baby - so no need to stress, we will take our time!

It’s the most frequently asked question and a concern for so many mums - what can baby and I possibly wear?

To put it out there straight away (and you will recognise this on my pictures)… I love all nudes, beiges, whites! They make skin look beautiful, are classy and timeless and put the focus of the eye on what is important in the image: the face, the expression, the emotion!

The recommendation I give to everyone is to come in an outfit you feel comfortable with! Pick something without big patterns and in neutral colours, anything that is soft, maybe even knitted, something that hugs your and baby’s body!

And beyond that, I have a few items in my rental wardrobe, that I am happy to prepare - just let me know upfront which ones you are interested in, and I’ll make sure we will have them ready for the photoshoot! You can check out the outfits here:

Most parents have more items for their babies to wear than for themselves… but nevertheless, I also have some cute baby outfits, some scarves and blankets we always use during the shoots! They will be ready for you to choose from when you arrive, you can find a sneak preview here!

I hope you booked your photoshoot with me because you like classy, but very natural and not too heavily staged pictures! What you cannot expect, are probs, babies on swings, flying through the air, dressed as fruit or all of these weird and wonderful things that you see out there! I hope we are in agreement here :)

My (home) studio is located in the top floor of a beautiful, 19th century villa in Storängen, Nacka. If you come by car, you can park directly at the premises, if you come by public transport, bus 25F will get you closest, the bus stop is just a few hundred meters away (Storängens Station)! You can find me here, just give me a call upon arrival (+46 73 460 63 28), and I’ll pick you up at the brown entrance door!

There are 2 flights of stairs to climb - if you bring your stroller, you can just park it in the entrance or in front of the door!

This was a lot of information to digest! So I want to close this of saying that I’m so looking forward to meet you, and to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you!

If you have any questions in the meantime, just reach out - you can literally ask me anything!
